The Energy Department will begin laying off researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in the next week or two because of cuts to its budget.
A veteran researcher said the staff had been told that the cuts would be concentrated among researchers in wind and biomass, which includes ethanol. Those are two of the technologies that Mr. Bush cited on Tuesday night as holding the promise to replace part of the nation's oil imports.
I'm seriously going insane. Why can't he just lie about oral sex instead of, you know, everything else?

While President Bush pledged to replace over 75 percent of our Middle Eastern oil imports by 2025, that achievement would constitute only an 8.25 percent decrease in total oil use over 19 years. Moreover, a day after Bush gave his address, his Energy Secretary, Samuel Bodman told reporters "he didn't mean it literally," and went on to explain that because oil is a "freely traded global commodity... it would be very difficult to reduce imports from any single region."
